"Biodynamic Gatorade" was how importer Stephen Bitterolf of Vom Boden first described this wine. Stephen brought together Württemberg-based winegrower Jochen Beurer and famed Brooklyn pizzaria Roberta's to bring us "Natty II", a lip-smacking, thirst-quenching collaborative rose from southern Germany. Beurer diverted a small portion of his trollinger-based rose and bottled it with lower sulfur and no filtration. As delicious as it is limited. And of course great with summer-time pizzas hot off the grill.
About Weingut Beurer:
The Beurer family has been farming the sandy soils of Germany's Kernen-Stetten (in the Württemberg region just east of Stuttgart) for generations. Winemaker Jochen Beurer’s father, Siegfried, was the head of the local cooperative, but in 1997 the family made the decision to quit the co-op and form an independent winery. Farming organically since 2003, they became certified biodynamic in 2008. Beginning with just three hectares, they now have 13 ha, from which grapes are crushed by foot and spontaneously fermented with native yeast in stainless steel.
Certified biodynamic, low-intervention, vegan.
