Luca Roagna is giving a voice to the voiceless, as far as Piedmontese grape varieties are concerned, by producing a natural-style dolcetto d’Alba that has earned its spot next to titanic Barolos and Barbarescos. Luca employs native yeast fermentation to give this dolcetto a gamey wild side that melds seamlessly with the grape’s intrinsic black cherry aroma. This wine sees 100 days of skin-maceration, and is then aged in large-format, old oak barrels for one year. The 2017 is especially gorgeous; fantastically fresh with expressive aromatics and bright red fruit tones. Bottled without filtration, this wine has chewy tannins and a silky, supple texture that is a lovely expression of classic Piedmont. Organically grown, low intervention, vegan.
