Porter Creek Vineyards was founded in 1978, when George R. Davis purchased the estate that already had some young pinot noir vines, which are still producing fruit and 45 years old today. They are located in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County, but the fruit for this rosé comes from Mendocino County to the north. George’s son, Alex, now runs the estate after studying Viticulture and Enology in Dijon and Burgundy. Since their vineyards in Sonoma are certified biodynamic, their bare minimum standard for purchased fruit is that there are absolutely no synthetic chemicals used on the vines. It is made with 80% old vine carignane and 20% Russian River zinfandel that are whole-cluster pressed, fermented to dryness, and aged in neutral French oak barrel. It displays a bright freshness with tart red fruit and citrus with a mineral-driven finish. Sustainably grown, low-intervention, vegan.
