The beautiful Alpine region of the Savoie has a well-deserved reputation for producing incredibly drinkable, carefully-crafted wines that also happen to be wonderful values. Gilbert Perrier and his son are the fifth and sixth generation to make wine in this part of eastern France, with the family domaine dating back to 1853. The domaine has slowly expanded over the years, but vineyard work is still sustainable, and grapes are hand harvested and gently vinified in stainless steel tanks. This mondeuse is quite classic in style, opening with a whiff of smokiness on the nose. Lithe on the palate with soft tannin and nice tension, flavors of fresh red fruit keep the wine lively and oh-so-quaffable. Hints of savory herbs and cracked black pepper on the finish add to the overall food-friendly profile. Sustainably grown.
