Poderi Colla was founded by Tino Colla and his niece Federica in 1994. Winemaking in the Colla family history goes as far back as 1703. Beppe (Tino’s older brother and Federica’s father) had a legendary career as the definitive authority on the Langhe appellations and one of the founding fathers of the Alba DOCs in the 1960s. In 1961, he was the first to vinify and bottle single-vineyard selections. The family has property in Barolo, Barbaresco, and Alba, and seek to showcase Piedmont’s classic red wines. All of them are single-varietal, grown without the use of harsh chemicals, aged in traditional Slavonian casks, and bottled with no filtration. The barbera grapes for this wine come from a vineyard located in Barbaresco, which was planted in 1930, lending the wines intensity and concentration. This bottle offers up lovely notes of red fruit, flowers, and spices, with a medium body and fresh acidity. It is drinking wonderfully now but will develop more complexities and soften over the years. Organically grown, vegan.
