Old Grand-Dad Bourbon is part of the Jim Beam-Suntory family of spirits and was named by Raymond B. Hayden in honor of his grand-dad, the famous master distiller, Basil Hayden. Old Grand-dad also features the same mashbill as Basil Hayden's: 63% corn, 27% rye, and 10% malted barley. Old Grand-Dad is named in Live and Let Die, one of the novels in Ian Flemming’s James Bond series, as Bond’s bourbon of choice for his old fashioned cocktail. And this is a fantastic choice for cocktails, since the higher proof maintains tons of flavor even after dilution. This 114 proof, high abv expression is a nice sipper as well, with a long, rich mouthfeel and notes of orange rind, cinnamon, and spice (from the higher percentage of rye).
