One of the oldest producers of Barolo, Oddero was founded in 1878. The patriarch, Giacomo Oddero, has worked for many years to protect this tradition not only for winemaking, but also for the traditional foods of the Langhe, including cheese, truffles, and hazelnuts. He has since handed the reins of the winery to his two daughters, Mariavittoria and Mariacristina (who has a viticulture and enology degree). Mariavittoria’s daughter, Isabella, has also brought new energy and focus to the vineyards and cellars. Isabella maintains that the nebbiolo from their zone in the Langhe is more elegant and perfumed than others of the region, and possesses less of a harsh tannic structure. This spectacular Barolo is 100% nebbiolo sourced from two different vineyards, vinified separately, and matured separately in large oak barrels for 30 months. It is blended in the spring, followed by 6 months of bottle aging before release. This is an extremely elegant Barolo, full of bright red fruit and persistent, full tannins for a classic, bold quaff accented with aromas of spice, truffles, dried flowers, and licorice. Certified organic.
