Villa Cafaggio is located in Panzano, in the hamlet of Greve in Chianti. It sits within the greater area known as the ‘Conca d’Ora’, or ‘Golden Basin’, which holds a reputation as the finest zone for producing Chianti Classico. The estate encompasses approximately 60 ha, with 30 ha of vineyards, 10 ha of olive groves, and the remainder devoted to woodland. The cuvée “Basilica del Cortaccio” is a classic expression of Tuscan cabernet sauvignon. Grapes come from a vineyard situated at approximately 400 m in elevation, and are destemmed and gently crushed. During fermentation the wine remains in contact with the skins for three weeks, then is transferred to French oak barriques where it undergoes malolactic fermentation. It is aged for 18 months in oak barriques and an additional 6 months in bottle. Classic, concentrated, and structured, this wine offers up loads of dark blackberry and cassis on a full bodied frame. Notes of dusty cacao nibs, leather, and a fleshy texture reminiscent of tomato skins are supported by firm tannins on a long, earth-tinged finish. Organically grown.
