Bodegas Pagos de Matanegra is located in the small village of Oimedillo de Roa, which is in the mountains in the northern portion of the Duero valley that shapes the Ribera del Duero appellation. Owners José Luis Escudero and César Martín place high value on tempranillo, and farm it with biodynamic techniques, principally the lunar cycles. They treat the vines and the land with the utmost respect to allow their tempranillo shine and hold true to its character. They are a small winery with old vines, on average 60 years old but 30% being older than 80 years. The “Perillan” is aged for 8 months in French oak, and is very gently filtered and racked in accordance with the waning moon. This is powerful and structured tempranillo: the fruit character is a touch darker than the norm, with bright, clean violet notes while still being deep, enveloping, and silky. It has a long, luxurious finish with fullness and persistence. Biodynamically grown.
