Azienda Agricola Massa Vecchia is located in the upper Maremma in Tuscany, on the slopes of Colline Metallifere. Fabrizio Niccolaini, and his wife, Patrizia, founded it in 1985, but since 2009, it has been run by Patrizia’s daughter, Francesca Sfrondrini, and her partners, Daniel and Ines Wattenhofer, Thomas Frischknecht, and Rocco Delli Colli. The philosophy of working with and respect for nature has always been central at Massa Vecchia, thus they farm biodynamically. The vineyards are worked by hand and no chemicals are used in the vineyard or winery. The ‘Vita Toscana Bianco’ is made from a blend of malvasia bianca di Candia, vermentino and trementino, and spends an extended time on its skins, giving it an orange hue and tannin structure. It is fermented in oak and then aged one year in oak, before it being bottled unfined and unfiltered. This wine is intoxicating and intense: floral, funky, and oxidative tones sit on top of a fresh, clean, and lively palate with stringent tannin and a medium bodied frame. Biodynamically grown, low-intervention, vegan.
