In 1970, San Francisco firefighter Cecil De Loach and his wife Christine purchased the prized Barbieri Ranch in Russian River Valley’s coveted Olivet Road district. They became pioneers and leaders in the Russian River Valley wine scene. After selling their iconic winery, De Loach Vineyards, in 2003, they launched Hook & Ladder (a reference to Cecil's firefighting days) just a short distance away. Jason De Loach, Cecil’s grandson, is the current winemaker and has studied enology and worked at vineyards in Chile. They practice sustainable agriculture including integrated pest management and using only the most environmentally safe chemicals when necessary. Starting with apple-butter and floral aromas, their chardonnay is rich and full on the palate, with orchard fruit, hints of citrus and a long finish of toasted butter and a kiss of oak. Sustainably grown.
