Holdredge is very Sonoma in style in that they are a true “mom and pop” winery in a small red barn. They have no staff, all of the work is done by John and Carri Holdredge. They focus all of their efforts into producing a collection of outstanding pinot noir to emphasize the terroir of different regions and vineyards. John and Carri operate under two main beliefs: first, wine is made in the vineyard, not in the cellar, and second, that wine is better able to express the place where it is actually from when there is minimal intervention. Holdredge wines are elegant, balanced and nuanced, reflecting the individual vineyard’s “voice” as John likes to call it. Their wines are wonderful and approachable when they’re first released, but their selectiveness in grapes and practices produce wines of character that are capable of aging for 5-10 years. They only use native yeast fermentations, never inoculate to initiate malolactic fermentation, and they never acidify or chaptalize or alter their wines. This cuvée comes from several different regions within the Russian River Valley, covering different climates, soils, and elevations to express the voice of the region as a whole. This pinot is on the bolder rather than lighter side, with beautiful red fruit with balanced touches of spice and oak. It is dry with soft tannin and a juicy acidity. Sustainably grown.
