Domaine Gerard Duplessis has been a family-owned estate for five generations, with Lilian Duplessis currently at the helm. The estate was founded in 1895, and Lilian took over for his father Gerard in 1999 after going to school for winemaking and completing several internships in Burgundy. He has converted the whole estate to organic, certified by Ecocert, and is one of the very few organic estates in Chablis. All of the vineyards are within Chablis and Petit Chablis AOCs and planted solely to chardonnay in Kimmeridgian limestone soils. The Premier Cru Montmains is from two parcels with clay over the limestone and is fermented with natural yeasts in stainless steel before resting in neutral barrels for at least six months. It is the most powerful, age-worthy wine made by Lilian, and can easily be aged for fifteen more years, but drinks beautifully today. Terroir- and mineral-driven, it displays stone fruit tones and green apple with a touch of smoke on a wonderfully round palate with balanced acidity. Certified organic, low-intervention, vegan.
