Fjord Vineyards is the creation of Matthew Spaccarelli, winemaker at Benmarl Winery, located across the river in Marlboro. The Hudson River flows through one of the oldest Fjords in North America, between Storm King Mountain and Mount Beacon. This creates the unique microclimate conditions that allow high quality grapes to be grown in the Hudson Valley. These wines are crafted by Matthew in the Benmarl cellars, using both estate-grown fruit and grapes sourced from renowned vineyards in the Finger Lakes and the North Fork of Long Island. It was founded in 2013 by Matthew S. and Casey Erdmann with the desire to create wines that truly express the Hudson Valley with elegance. This albariño is a triple winner declared “Best of Show”, “Best White Wine” and “Best Overall Hudson Valley Wine” and these are the only albariño grapes planted in New York, coming from a certified organic one-acre plot in Marlboro. It is elegant and expressive, with enticing soft tropical aromas accented with mineral and beeswax. Clean orchard fruit on the palate is perfectly balanced by lively acidity and a hint of spiciness.
