Eva Fricke wasn’t born into a winemaking family. The daughter of two doctors in Lower Saxony, she developed a strong desire to make wine after spending time in the vineyards of South Africa. She went on to study viticulture and oenology in Geisenheim, where she graduated in 2001, having worked at several vineyards around the world: in Bordeaux, Piedmont, Australia and the famed Dominio de Pingus estate in Ribera del Duero. Eva worked as winemaker for many years at Leitz, one of the best known Rheingau wineries. She began her own project while still employed there, making her first independent vintage in 2006, from the Krone vineyard in Lorch. She farms organically, currently working 3.2 hectares in Lorch, Lorchhausen and Kiedrich, where the slate, loess, and loamy soils yield distinctive wines of powerful elegance. This incredibly dry riesling is simply beautiful: aromatic, fresh, and pure, with lively orchard and stone fruit, a touch of citrus, flowers, and crushed stones. Vibrant acidity keeps this wine juicy and light on its feet without becoming too austere. Organically grown.
