A second label of Rootdown Wine Cellar by Mike Lucia, "Es Okay" is lighthearted in spirit and full of Northern California character. The red is a blend of 5 Portuguese varieties each fermented separately with native yeast. The wine was punched down two times a day and pressed, and the Touriga National was partially fermented whole cluster (roughly 25% of the wine). The wine finished fermentation in stainless steel tank and was then transferred to barrels where it finished malolactic fermentation. After aging in neutral barrels for 6 months, it was bottled in these charismatic, clear squat bottles and slapped with a goofy cat label. Although lighthearted, this wine skews more medium-bodied, with notes of ripe blueberry and blackberry and a touch of cacao nib driven by the touriga nacional. Sustainably grown.
