Skouras Winery was started in 1986 in Pyrgela, Argos, by Dijon-trained oenologist George Skouras. Skouras began producing high quality Greek wines in the late 80s, working with both indigenous as well as international grape varietals. Nemea has been prized as a winemaking region since ancient times (Homer referred to the region as “Ampeloessa” which literally means “full of vines”, and archeological evidence reveals at least 3500 years of winemaking history!) The most important grape variety is Agiorgitiko, also known as St. George, derived from the name of the town where it is thought to have originated. Skouras Winery sources grapes from its own vineyards as well as from dedicated grape-growers in the region. “Zoe” is 70% agioritikio and 30% moscofilero, fermented in stainless steel vats, with short aging on fine lees and no malolactic fermentation. A light, bright pink hue, it is vibrant on the nose, with aromas of ripe cherries, raspberries, rose petals, and crushed wildflowers. Refreshing acidity on a medium-bodied palate supports more ripe red berry flavors, with a hint of sweet grass and bubblegum.
