Guy Roulot was a legendary producer of some of the finest Meursaults, if not some of the world’s finest white wines. His untimely death in 1982 left the estate in disarray for a few years, with a couple of different winemakers aiding with the changeover. Jean-Marc, Guy’s son, was pursuing an acting career in Paris, but in 1989, he decided to come home and take on the responsibility of making wine to preserve the family business and name. His progress has since brought even more notice to a domaine that has already enjoyed such a prestigious reputation. His style is known for being bright, chiseled, and precise, with his terroir contributing depth and sumptuousness. Jean-Marc and his wife Alix de Montille (daughter of famous Volnay producer, Hubert de Montille) love cooking, and they believe the strong minerality and fresh acidity of their wines marry well with food. The vines for his Bourgogne Blanc are all planted in the village of Meursault in clay/limestone soils and the vines are between 30-40 years old. It is fermented in wooden vat, with 15-18% of the wood being new. It goes through full malolactic fermentation with lees aging and batonnage every 3 to 4 weeks. After malo is completed, it is racked into a combination of barrel for 11 months and stainless steel for 7. It has a wonderful complexity and elegance, with brightness and bold minerality and a touch of that oaky character with creaminess on the palate and a touch of salty sea spray. Organically grown.
