Domaine Michel Juillot has a total of 32.5ha and offers a wide range of Burgundian wines from the Côte Chalonnaise. Many of those hectares falling within Mercurey, of which 8.5ha are Premier Cru. Laurent Juillot is the fourth generation of winemakers in his family. Since 2007, he has used a vertical press to provide silky tannins without bitterness, and in more recent years he has focused on the identification of indigenous yeasts of each plot. The pinot noir vines in Clos Tonnerre were planted in 1958 in hard limestone soils with chert. The grapes are destemmed; the wine goes through full malolactic fermentation and is matured in French oak (15% new). Offering moderate richness, full of dark berry fruit and plum notes with streaks of earth, pepper and spice, and just a hint of menthol on the nose. Lush and silky on the palate with a persistent dryness and peppery finish.
