MIX IT UP!
Aperol Spritz: Easy to find this recipe; it’s right on the bottle. Try with Sumarroca Cava.
Gypsy Eyes: Shake this up with some Gin, Lime, Grapefruit and a touch of Green Chartreuse.
Paper Plane: Montenegro works great in this modern classic with Bourbon and Lemon.
Aperol is the perfection of seven years’ hard work, experimentation, and dedication from the Barbieri brothers, Luigi and Silvio, who inherited a liqueur company from their father, Giuseppe, in 1912. In the immediate post-war period and in later years, Aperol became popular all over Italy, particularly with young adults active in their social life. In the 50s, the famous recipe that made Aperol Spritz so popular was born. This is also the period of “Il Carosello”, the first Aperol TV commercial. Although popular since its introduction, the “spritz revolution” occurred between 2000 and 2008, when strong advertising campaigns intensely communicating with art, fashion, and lifestyle, achieved resounding success in Italy and around the world. The name says it all: Aperol is the perfect aperitif. Its unique bittersweet taste and bright orange color derive from a secret original recipe that has remained unchanged over time. A balanced infusion of bitter and sweet oranges is blended with a secret mix of herbs and roots for a unique flavor with a velvety, round texture. It is delicious to sip on the rocks, but makes an amazing addition to cocktails with a complex, pleasant bitterness. The famous “aperol spritz” cocktail is ice, prosecco, and aperol (in equal parts), garnished with a slice of orange.
