The Ijalba family, led by father Santiago and son Roberto farms 20 hectares of vine, all of which is certified organic. Over his 45+ year career, Santiago has cultivated relatipnships with other organic growers in the region from who he purchases fruit for use in their various cuvees. The abando Rioja is a bolder, riper expression with tons of baked and stewed strawberry fruit with baking and barrel spice to back it up. Fermented in stainless steel with indeginous yeasts, the wine is then aged for 12 months in new French oak and 3 months in American oak, with an additional 24 months aging in bottle before release. A supurb value given the time and effort put into this wine! If we were in Rioja, we would open with local roasted lamb shoulder.
